07/08/2004: Andes councilman and journalist Jesus Maria Zapata was gunned down near his home by suspected members of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC) in Antioquia department. The attack came in a wave of increased violence in Antioquia department attributed to the ongoing feud between leftist rebels and their rightwing paramilitary rivals.
