Incident Summary:

07/02/2004: Suspected Maoist rebels assassinated the mayor of Pokhara in Gandandi zone, Harkha Bahsadur Gurung. The mayor was killed while driving through a crowded marketplace when a pedestrian stopped him and shot him at close range with a revolver. Two other Maoists rushed forward and also opened fire. The mayor's bodyguard and driver sustained serious injuries. The assailants fled after the attack.
