Incident Summary:

02/13/2003: Early in the day local time, MILF guerrillas and allied armed groups invaded Bual village, near Tulunan town, in Cotabato province in the southern Philippines. At least 100 civilians were taken hostage, though a large number later escaped or were freed. The Philippine Army stated that MILF was looking for food and water, as well as using the civilians as a human shield. Later reports indicated that the kidnapping ended by the end of the month, but it was unclear when. There was no information on casualties and deaths.
