Incident Summary:

08/08/2002: Don Kulapani, a freelance journalist, was killed in the hold-up of a bar in Lilongwe, Malawi. The thugs assaulted people forcing many to leave the place, killed Kulapani and stole items from the bar. However, this incident coincided with recent press release from United Democratic Front, the ruling party in Malawi, denying news media claims that it had a unit tasked with silencing investigative journalists who embarrass the government.
