Additional Information Following the attack the Israeli government, lead by Ariel Sharon, was blamed for the assassination by Palestinian and Lebanese authorities. However, Lebanese President Lahhud stated that he suspected the attackers wanted to harm internal stability in Lebanon, wanted to divert the attention of the Arab and world opinions from crimes in occupied Palestinian territories, and to prevent the deceased from testifying before the court in Belgium.
