Incident Summary:

11/1/2001: Carlos Arturo Pinto, a special prosecutor, was shot and killed in Cucuta, Norte de Santander Department, Colombia. Two gunmen on a motorcycle killed Pinto as he left his home. Pinto was investigating leftist guerrillas and a paramilitary group at the time of the assassination; he had been called in to replace another prosecutor that had been assassinated a few months prior. No group claimed responsibility for the incident and specific motive is unknown.
