Incident Summary:

09/19/2001: The police chief of Kurchaloyevskiy District, Salman Abuyev, and six policemen were killed when gunmen attacked them between the villages of Mayrtup and Kurchaloy, Chechnya, Russia. Several of the attackers are reported to have died in the ensuing gun battle as well. No group claimed responsibility, but Chechen separatist rebels were suspected to be behind attack.
