Incident Summary:

11/07/2001: Mireya Mejia Araujo, a commissioner for peace in the Department of Cesar, was kidnapped by members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), as she drove through a rural area outside of La Nevadita, Cesar Department, Colombia. The group later made demands, which included $150,000 in exchange for Castro's release. The government claimed they would not pay the ransom, but did engage in negotiations with FARC.
