Incident Summary:

5/14/2001: At least 190 workers were kidnapped by at least 80 armed members of the United Self-defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) in Villanueva, in the province of Casanare, Colombia, under suspicion of being spies. The workers were taken off the buses they were traveling on towards their homes after leaving the farms they worked on. All but twenty-six of the workers were released the following day, while the remaining hostages were released after two days of captivity. All were uninjured. The AUC claimed responsibility for the attack over the Caracol radio station.
