Incident Summary:

1/17/2001: Luther Fielenberg, German petroleum expert working for Preussag, was kidnapped from an oil field by tribesmen in Shabwa province, Yemen. The al-Karb tribe demanded that Preussag employ 50 members of the tribe in exchange for Fielenberg's safe release; however, the company refused the deal. On January 18, 2001, security forces clashed with the al-Karb tribe and successfully rescued Fielenberg.
