Incident Summary:

7/30/2000: Rajkumar, a popular movie actor, was abducted from his home in Gajanur, Tamil Nadu state, India. Three others, including his son-in-law, were abducted with him. Veerappan was the leader of the abduction; he is a notorious criminal known for numerous murders, abductions, poaching and smuggling. Veerappan demanded 12 million dollars for the actor's release. He also made several political demands, including the release of 51 sentenced criminals. Rajkumar was released on November 15, 2000; by that time, the other three abductees had escaped or been released. None of Veerappan's demands had been met.
