Incident Summary:

7/16/2000: Suspected members of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) and Daawa Wal Djihad (Appeal and Struggle) set up a fake road block in Tipaza province, Algeria. The assailants stopped three cars and opened fire on them, killing nine civilians in the attack. Three additional civilians managed to escape the attack. GIA and Appeal and Struggle are opposed to the Algerian President's peace offer to end civil war.
