Additional Information Most of the slain civilians died when stray bullets tore through their homes, but the Mayor was reportedly targeted directly and shot to death by the rebels. Officials said eight of the officers were executed at close range, presumably after having surrendered, and that rebels hacked the dead police with machetes and burned some of their corpses.
