Incident Summary:

08/17/1999: Two roadside bombs exploded in Sidon, Lebanon, killing Hizballah commander Ali Hassan Deeb, better known as Abu Hassan. Security officials said two roadside bombs, apparently detonated by remote control, exploded simultaneously next to his BMW. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing, but Nabil Kaouk, the Hizballah commander in southern Lebanon, blamed Israel and its Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Israel denied responsibility for the attack.
