Incident Summary:

06/10/1999: Four uniformed and armed men, allegedly belonging to the Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO), attacked and beat Frenando Muxanga, the local secretary for the Mozambique Youth Organization (OJM), in his home in Inhaminga, Mozambique. Though armed with pistols, used only clubs to beat Muxanga. The attack was believed to have been motivated by Muxanga's role in mobilizing people to attend a rally in Inhaminga that was addressed by President Joaquim Chissano, during his recent visit to the region, as well as by Muxanga's efforts to persuade RENAMO members to join the ruling Mozambique Liberation Front Party (FRELIMO). This incident occurred on or before June 10, 1999.
