Incident Summary:
5/9/1999: A car bomb exploded outside of the Athlone police station on the Cape Flats, South Africa. The explosive device was stored in the vicinity of a Toyota Corolla car. It detonated around 4 pm, causing minor damage to the perimeter fencing surrounding the police station. No deaths were reported, but children in a nearby backyard were hit by flying glass.
