01/12/1999: In Port-au-Prince, Haiti, unknown gunmen attacked the car of Mrs. Marie-Claude Preval, sister of Haitian President Rene Preval, hours after the President announced he would bypass a hostile legislature and create a new government by decree. Mrs. Preval was seriously wounded and her driver died.
