07/23/1998: Unknown individuals planted a car bomb along the Staropromyslovskoye highway near Grozny, Chechnya, Russia, in an attempt to kill Aslan Maskhadov, the president of Chechnya. One of Maskhadov's bodyguards died and seven people, including Maskhadov, were injured.
