Project Details

Abstract:

Johanna Birnir (University of Maryland) and Nil Satana (Bilkent University, Turkey) will explore the role that religious beliefs play in a group's radicalization process to test whether groups that adhere to and are inspired by specific religions are necessarily more likely than others to engage in terrorism to pursue goals. In particular, they are interested in examining the effects on ethnic minorities whose religion (family or denomination) differs from the majority.
