Why the United States is Targeted by Terrorism

Abstract: 
Why are American citizens and interests targeted by terrorism?  Generally two sorts of explanations are offered. One focuses on underlying conditions that generate not just anti-American attitudes but anti-American violence. The other, which my argument supports, focuses on the strategies of specific groups.
