Daniel Smith is an Unconventional Weapons and Technology researcher at START. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in Comparative Politics at the University of Virginia, where he studied patterns of insurgent violence against civilians. While a graduate student at UVA, Smith was involved with a number of projects, dealing with issues such as China’s economic growth and policy framing in the European Union. Some of his other research interests include state formation, civil war dynamics, and counterinsurgency.
