Related Datasets From START: Terrorist Organization Profiles

In addition to the GTD, researchers at START host the Terrorist Organizations Profiles (TOPs) dataset: a repository of information on over 800 terrorist groups.

The TOPs dataset was created and maintained from 2004 through 2008 by the Terrorism Knowledge Base® (TKB®). The Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT), based in Oklahoma City, sponsored the project with support from the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). TKB® was last updated by MIPT on March 1, 2008, and the project ceased operations on March 31, 2008.

Through an agreement between MIPT, DHS and START, TOPs is the conduit between TKB group profile data and the public. Future plans include the integration of GTD data with the TOPs dataset. START will provide on-line access to those integrated data in the future.
