Description

The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) is now hiring a part-time Qualitative Researcher with native-language Spanish skills for a project supporting an open source research project supporting identifying open-source indicators of narco-trafficking and narco-terrorism activity. The successful applicant with help with supervising interns translating and coding open-source research into a database. The candidate will also, under the direction of the project’s primary investigator (PI), assist with analyzing results. The project is expected to last through June with the potential for extension contingent on funding, performance, and program needs. U.S. citizen or permanent resident is a requirement.

Responsibilities:

The position will require a strong qualitative research background and the ability to oversee undergraduate interns as they translate and code news articles in English and Spanish. The successful candidate will work with the project’s PI to maintain quality control and proper coding techniques. There will be an opportunity to assist with developing the coding scheme and potentially an opportunity to assist with analyzing results, subject to funding.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a social science field
  • Familiarity with Qualitative Research
  • Native or near-native language fluency in Spanish
  • Ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail
  • Experience with Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with structuring qualitative research
  • Previous experience with cleaning data
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in Narco-trafficking and/or Narco-terrorism research 

Salary

The hourly rate for this position is $18-20 dollars/hour (depending on skills and experience) for 15 hours per week. This position is not eligible for benefits. The anticipated start date is January 2018, with an appointment term of 4.5 months. This position is contingent on funding approval.
